First and foremost, it’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the current brand ambassador of Jharkhand. The ex-Indian cricket captain has gone on to be Jharkhand Tourism’s brand ambassador. The nod was given in July 2025, and it is a four-year agreement. It’s confirmed that a campaign film is already in the works by the tourism department. Somewhere in the next few months, you could probably expect to catch a sight of MS Dhoni’s face lighting up Jharkhand’s promotional flyer or ad.

How Did Dhoni Land This Role?

Several years have passed. Back in 2017, Dhoni was associated with the “Momentum Jharkhand” investors’ summit. The summit, on its own, put the state on the map. Afterward, in the context of the 2024 assembly elections, the Election Commission hired him once more to galvanize youth voting turnout.

Trust and credibility were established through these events. Hence, when the tourism department was looking for a brand ambassador for the future, Dhoni emerged as the obvious candidate. Talks started in June, and the state cabinet approved it in July. Dhoni was officially made the first permanent tourism brand ambassador of Jharkhand after its bifurcation in 2000, with no time wasted.

What Will Dhoni Actually Do?

As a brand ambassador, Dhoni’s work is quite simple. Basically, he will be the face of advertisements like commercials, print, and social media. People will be able to observe him promoting the natural beauty, fauna, art, and adventurous places of Jharkhand. These events are organized to bring in money and tourists; therefore, he will also be present at such trade fairs and roadshows.

All the rights for the campaign would remain under the tourism department; in other words, they would have full control. The only request that Dhoni made? It should be a short and simple daily routine, which will not have an adverse effect on his cricket or business activities.

Why Dhoni?

At this point, you might ask: Why Dhoni? To begin with, he is the one from Ranchi. He is very familiar with the state, not only because he knows it thoroughly but also because he can communicate in the local language and has a great number of admirers not only in India but all over the world.

The officials are of the view that Dhoni’s face, which is so famous among people, helps them to move the focus away from the old stories related to the police and law and order in the state. Besides, his name gives the department of tourism not only recognition, a go-ahead, and far reach, but also the possibility of achieving this without a heavy budget.
