Yes, Rado is definitely a luxury brand. And to be more specific here, Rado is somewhat of a mid-to-high-tier luxury brand in the watch segment of the global market. That’s the simplest way to put it. So yes, let’s talk a little bit more about Rado and its pure luxury here.

Just A Little Bit About Rado Here

The story of Rado dates back to 1917 in Lengnau, Switzerland. Three brothers (Fritz, Ernst, and Werner Schlup) started a little business in their parents’ home named Schlup & Co. Initially, however, they were not making complete watches, just manufacturing an assortment of watch movements. By the time World War II ended, their company had become counted among the largest movement manufacturers in Switzerland.

In 1957, the Rado brand was given an official identity. Rado brought out DiaStar, the world’s first scratch-resistant watch, in 1962, a few years after the establishment of the brand. That revolutionary advancement immediately put Rado up in the air in the watchmaking circle. At present, Rado is a part of the Swatch Group that owns equally seasoned Swiss brands like Omega, Longines, and Tissot.

What Makes Rado a Luxury Brand?

There’s a lot going into the luxurious essence of Rado. The three things that characterize this brand are unusual materials, Swiss quality, and award-winning designs. Their motto states, “If we can imagine it, we can make it,” and Rado surely has followed through on that.

  • Materials: This was one of the first companies to make watches out of high-tech ceramic. The material is lightweight, hypoallergenic, and highly resistant to scratching. For the watch face, a sapphire crystal is used, which is one of the hardest substances available. These traits make Rados much more user-friendly in a lasting and comfortable way, suitable for everyday use.
  • Swiss Made: The label “Swiss Made” is carried by every Rado watch, ensuring complete precision, quality, and craftsmanship.
  • Design Awards: Rado designs are ultra-modern and ultra-minimal in every respect, with highly innovative applications having earned the company around 20 international design awards.
